make your own - leather tassel keyring

make your own - leather tassel keyring
It's time to take your mustard locker to the next level with a leather tassel keyring you can make yourself!
Follow our simple DIY to add some bling to your locker...

What you need

  • Faux leather 32cm x 10cm - (this is the tassel piece)
  • Faux leather 9cm x 1.5cm - (this is the hook piece)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Tacky glue
  • Mustard Made keyring

Step by Step

one.

Using a ruler, draw a line 2cm in from the edge along the longest side of the tassel piece. We will call this line ‘a’. Then draw 6 vertical lines underneath the horizontal line you just drew.

two.

Grab your material scissors and slowly cut vertical lines every 6mm all the way along the leather only up to the horizontal line ‘a’. The vertical guidelines you drew earlier will help you keep these cuts straight.

three.

Thread the hook piece of leather through the metal ring on the keyring and add a small amount of tacky glue. Hold it together for about 20 seconds until it sticks.

four.

Now on the tassel piece squeeze a small amount of glue out onto the top corner above line ‘a’ and spread with a brush (or your finger!). Then place the hook on the tassel piece, line the bottom of the hook up with line ‘a’. Hold down for a minute until it sticks.

five.

Now we are up to the trickiest part. Carefully hold the hook in place and wrap the tassel around a couple of times until you can’t see the glue anymore.
Add more glue above line ‘a’, wrap and repeat until the whole tassel is around the hook. Hold tightly in place for a minute and set aside overnight to ensure the glue is 100% dry.
*Hint* It will be tempting to apply the glue to a wider area, but it makes the wrapping much more difficult so do a little at a time!
