Our story begins with two sisters who took vintage lockers, gave them a twist and called it Mustard.

2017

Dream big

We always dreamed of starting a business together. Jess was a fashion buyer working at a  fast pace and large scale. Becca was a jewellery maker and hosted a market for small, creative brands. When Becca had her baby, Ellis, Jess came to meet him. We got talking about our dream once again, we were ready for something new. We didn't know it then, but our different strengths and experiences combined into a shared vision.

The spark

We were walking by the ocean and pondering a question: What do you love that is uniquely you? Becca thought about her home and studio… right there, the lightbulb moment! She had a random selection of metal lockers — one flaky old one found on the side of the road, a few from antique stores and some new. You see, she's always had a weird thing for lockers. That conversation changed our lives .

Bring it on

From that day, the work began: researching, reading, drawing, dreaming, writing endless lists, and seeking out a manufacturer who could bring our ideas to life. We flew around the world and met in China to learn as much as possible about creating our perfect products. We got to see our very first samples being born. It was magic.

2018

The launch

We took a gamble and booked a space at a trade show in Sydney. Samples were made, photos were taken, branding was finalised, and list after list got ticked off. We launched with two products in six colours, The Shorty and The Skinny. The verdict? Aussies loved lockers! That trade show blew our expectations out of the park and got us ready to take things global.

Going global

Next, Jess quit her job to launch Mustard in the UK. It was a huge leap, but we went all in — and it was worth it. The UK fell in love with our lockers, and soon, we were sending them all across Europe too. From our tiny desks in the corners of our living rooms, across two time zones with plenty of late nights and early mornings, the Mustard story was just beginning.

2019

Time to expand

This was the year we expanded our family with two new locker styles, The Lowdown and The Midi, opening up even more storage possibilities. We added two fresh colours, Berry and Ocean, bringing our palette to eight mix-and-match shades.

Doing good

Another dream came true: we partnered with Beam, donating £5 from every UK order to support people experiencing homelessness. Over five years, our customers helped us raise an incredible £207,707. Though the partnership has ended, the impact lives on.

2020

Sage took the stage

Our rainbow of colours expanded to include our soft, earthy green — Sage, and our team kept on growing too! We also took the whole 'family business' thing to the next level with our partners, Jono and Marc,  joining the team. At home, Becca and Jono completed their trio of boys with Otis arriving on the scene!

Unprecedented times

Together, we faced the many ups and downs that 2020 brought. We held on tight while navigating the challenges that came our way and continuing to do our very best for our customers. There were a lot of cancelled travel plans and the world felt far too big. We started Mustard because we wanted to spend more time together and in the months we were kept apart, our business kept us feeling close.

2021

Growing the family

After many COVID-related delays, we were ready for some newness. Our biggest locker yet, The Twinny, finally launched alongside our Hangers in every colour. We also teamed up with Wordbits, creating the perfect magnetic companion for our lockers and launched the lovely Lilac! But, of all the things we made that year, Jess’ baby Poppy tops the list!

G'day USA

One of our wildly big goals got ticked off the to-do list, we officially launched in the USA, bringing our love of lockers to a whole new audience. It was a slightly unhinged leap of faith, given pandemic life was still a rollercoaster, but we made it happen from afar. We rounded off the year together in London after two years and two babies apart!

2022

Popping up

When it came to picking a red, we had to pick Poppy! Our punchy new colour deserved our most ambitious photoshoot yet  — Becca drove 14 hours across Australia and Jess flew from London to bring the vision to life in the home of one of our very first customers in Melbourne! That year, we also partnered with our first US stockist (hi, Maisonette!) and started working with our European warehouse, making it easier than ever to spread the Mustard around the world.

Space to grow

With our teams expanding, we opened a brand new office in Camden, London and moved into a new Australian office too, giving us more space to collaborate, create and keep growing together, one colourful locker at a time. We have a saying that goes... As this business grows, we need to grow too. Every year we've stretched ourselves to keep up with the pace of our ever-changing business baby.

2023

Strong foundations

With our team growing, we focused on building the kind of business we want for the long haul — thoughtful, intentional and one we'd always dreamed of working for. We enjoyed a couple of trips to China to spend time with our manufacturers and see our lockers being made with care and craft. Seeing our ideas take form and figuring out all the beautiful, fiddly details of our products and packaging never gets boring.

In the spotlight

2023 was a big year for recognition! We were proudly featured in The Sunday Times 100, as one of Britain's fastest-growing private companies, and even got a feature in Forbes. Honestly, the pinch-me moments kept coming. Mustard also landed in some of our dream retailers, including Glassette, Westwing and Urban Outfitters. Talk about goals!

2024

A quadruple launch

This was our biggest year of newness yet! In the space of a year, we launched:

Making rainbows

To celebrate Pride, we created a limited-edition Rainbow Standard locker and donated 50% of the proceeds to Outright International. With the help of TikTok super stars Josh and Matt and our incredible community, we raised $75,400 (USD) for LGBTIQ+ human rights — one of our proudest achievements ever.

2025

the year so far

Our Glass lockers took gold for Best Living Room Storage in the Ideal Home Awards, and we were named one of the Sunday Times' Best Places to Work for 2025! We also brought our two new products, The Storyboard and The Buttons, into the world — for all the dreamers, doers and displayers!

Proud as punch

This year, we celebrated Pride by donating 25% of our sales, topping up our donation to Outright International by $43,164 (USD). We also introduced our parental leave policy — a milestone close to our hearts as two working Mums building a business that genuinely cares about our team.

What's next for Mustard?

More colour, more creativity, more lockers. We're still dreaming big, with exciting ideas and new products on the horizon, all designed with the same care and obsessive attention to detail that's defined us from day one. Through it all, we're still just two sisters, now with an amazing team around us, swimming in the deep end, growing as people and making Mustard the best place we’ll ever work. The rest of the story? We're writing it now — and we're so glad you're here to share it with us.

Love Becca and Jess x
